Intent
Our curriculum is designed to place a huge value on speaking and listening skills. We believe that our children should be able to ask for things they need, give opinions, discuss their learning and develop their vocabulary. We take every opportunity to extend their knowledge of words, including daily story time and staff carefully selecting key words for each curriculum subject.
Implementation
The delivery of this curriculum will ensure speaking and listening skills underpin everything we do in school. From our calmer classroom work, as well as feeding into our English through Talk For Writing, use of Kagan principles and drama.
Impact
By delivering the curriculum in this way, we provide opportunities for children to share experiences, articulate and justify answers and we always encourage expressing our feelings through speaking with both peers and adults. We are also very proud of our school events and performances where children are given the chance to speak in front of a larger audience, building confidence in their oracy.
