Celebrating Reading
At Haughmond Schools, we celebrate reading in a variety of exciting and engaging ways that help foster a love of books across our school community. Events, such as our popular Book Swap, encourage pupils to ‘bring a book and take a book’, promoting reading for pleasure and introducing children to new authors and genres.
During the festive season, Books Around the Christmas Tree brought a magical atmosphere to our reading celebrations, with pupils enjoying seasonal stories in the hall, read by a Christmas Elves and children were all gifted an age-appropriate book.
Our Book Club offers a space for enthusiastic readers to come together, to enjoy book-based activities, and explore themes and characters beyond the classroom.
Children who read frequently are recognised through Class Dojo, Achievement Assembly and visits to our Headteachers.
Children thoroughly enjoy our annual World Book Day event, embracing the chance to dress up as their favourite characters, share stories with friends, and take part in fun, book-themed projects and lessons that celebrate the joy of reading across the school.
Our school reading newsletter has further celebrated these special events. These events not only enrich our reading curriculum but also help build a vibrant reading culture where every child feels inspired to read, share, and enjoy books.
We have had an exciting delivery of books for our children, gifted from the charities ‘Books4Home’ and ‘Shrewsbury Darwin Rotary Club’. Pictured are Jenny Brackwell who has delivered all the books, Mrs Hill and children from across Haughmond Federation, with some of the lovely books which will be going home in the next few weeks to keep! We hope that you enjoy reading these books with your children.
